MAASAI MUISC AND DANCE
When singing or dancing, the Maasai people do not utilize instruments. Except for the huge horns utilized in a few tunes, all of their music is vocal. Their music consists of rhythms performed by a chorus of vocalists chanting harmonies, with the melody being sung by the olaranyani (song leader). Usually, the olaranyani is the individual who can sing that song the best. When olaranyani begins singing a song's line or title (namba), the entire ensemble responds with a single acknowledgement call. While the Masai jump and dance, the beads that both men and women wear make a jingling sound of their own. Women sing lullabies, hum songs, and sing praise songs to their sons.
The best time to sing and dance is during the holidays.
